Why should I hire a professional writer?
  •      To get a fresh set of eyes on your project – typos will easily slip through the cracks when your eyes glaze over from staring at the same document for hours or days on end.
  •      To get a professional edit – grammar and spelling are critical to the impact your project will have on your audience.
  •      To get an outside perspective – it’s easy to miss the jargon, slang, and other ambiguous writing that you are used to using every day, but which a reader is not.
  •      To get professional insight into your project and audience - helping find a better way to tailor your project to the needs of your client; identifying items missing from the project; rephrasing or reformatting to make it “pop”; helping “trim the fat”.
  •      To break your writing out of a “rut”, if you should find that it has fallen into one.

  • Why are you the writer I should hire?
  •      I have over a decade of writing experience: I have written and edited successful grant applications and RFP responses; my resume has always resulted in an interview; I have written and edited hundreds of technical, professional, and research reports.
  •      I have experience that will directly help your project. I have sat on both sides of the table in the RFP process and have thus seen what work goes into a response, and what the reviewers are really looking for. I have worked with the government sector, private sector, and educational sector. I have experience with writers for whom English is not their first language.

  • Can you guarantee that my [grant application / RFP response / resume / etc.] will be successful? Or, why was my [grant application / RFP response / resume / etc.] not successful?
  •      No, I cannot guarantee success of any project.
  •      There are many factors that go into any decision. For example, a company that puts out a Request for Proposal (RFP) may already have an existing contract that is up for renewal, and may simply want to compare that contract with others before renewing. Or that company may have a very specific budget, and if your response comes in too high it will not matter how well your response was put together. In other instances, a grant application may be the most well edited and well-assembled package, but someone else has demonstrated a greater need.
  •      What I can guarantee is that the project will be of the highest quality, so that it does not start off from a weak position.

  • Do you charge by the hour or by the project? Is your rate negotiable?
  •      I typically charge by the hour, and will work with you on a project-by-project basis to estimate a “not-to-exceed” amount so that you have a maximum cost on which to rely. I do my best to come in under that estimate, but you can trust that in no case will that amount be exceeded.
  •      I do not typically reduce my hourly rate. I work very efficiently yet thoroughly, and get a lot of work done in a short time.
  •      Please contact me personally to discuss rates, per-project estimates, and not-to-exceeds.

  • What services do you offer?
